About

Ville Marie

This site is for NDP members in the Ville-Marie–le-Sud-Ouest–Île-des-Sœurs electoral district, often shortened to Ville-Marie. But of course, everyone is welcome.

The EDA

EDA stands for Electoral District Association. An EDA is an association of members of a political party within an electoral district. EDAs represent the NDP locally. As such, they promote the NDP locally, recruit members, raise funds (see below), and present candidates in elections. All NDP members residing in the district are members of the EDA by virtue of their party membership.

An EDA registered with Elections Canada can raise funds for itself, for the party, or for a candidate. It can also issue tax receipts for donations. Fundraising and finances are strictly regulated by Elections Canada.

The affairs of an EDA are managed by an executive committee in accordance with its bylaws, the Party’s bylaws, and the law. A registered EDA must have an executive director, a financial officer, and an auditor. Other positions may be created as needed.
